Exhibition at Wuxi Opera House

A recent cultural trip to Wuxi  for activities on China New Folk Art brought some of my monotypes on rice paper to the impressive venue of Wuxi Opera House.  Eight gigantic roof wings extend over the facade giving the structure a butterfly appearance.

The event held various cultural activities such as visits to the famous LingShang  Grand Buddha monastery, seminars and local music performances at the Wuxi Opera house where I was invited to participate with a pop up exhibition. It is always fun to encounter people with an exhibition when they are not expecting one.

Many thanks to Aileen Murray Vice Consul (Irish Consulate Shanghai) who came to Wuxi to support the event and Jiang Shu Hao of the Ministry of Culture also pictured above, to Wuxi Municipality and to Mrs Huang of Wuxi Opera House .

A huge thank you extends to the various people who helped me with transport of  those heavy frames and making the trip so enjoyable ! We were rewarded with a few hours by the famous Tai Lake. Tai Hu the third largest fresh water lake in China is fed by the Yangtze and Qiantang river. Chinese gardens are dotted all round the lake with samples of plant life from all round China and the famed special rocks from this area, even as far back as the Song dynasty (1200 s) thirty four gardens were recorded.
