Beijing Bookworm talk on James Joyce with Prof Fu Hao , Niamh Cunningham and FIon Gunn

This year’s Irish project ‘Odyssey the Return ‘ explores James Joyces book Ulysses and the ancient epic poem The Odyssey.  On April 15th the famed Beijing Bookworm hosted our talk ‘What has James Joyce ever done for you?’  Our Monty Pythonesque title became slightly distorted with time as people started to refer to it as ‘What as James Joyce ever done to you?’

The Art of the Young Learner – two different workshops

It has been a few years since I gave workshops for children. But within the space of a week I gave 6 workshops in two different locations during the Chinese new year festival .

It was good to re-engage with my approach, knowing full well what I needed to provide. How will I manage and contain the exuberance, energy and impatience of the children? Would I remain patient myself in that environment?  Could I nurture the brilliant moments they have and push them on that path when things actually do work out and continue to work out wonderfully? Would I be able to unlock their talent and satisfy their curiosity ? Continue reading

Walkabout Town: Peter Doig, Fu Xiao Tong and Li Tingting finishing with Earth Day at the Hutong

It was a perfect weather day on Saturday April 22nd and began the day with a trip to 798 . I have been waiting for a Doig show here in Beijing for a while, it finally arrived. I couldn’t make the opening as my own show in Dong Yue was opening the following day. Two weeks later I finally make it to Faurschou Foundation. ‘Cabins and Canoes’ didn’t disappoint.
