Beijing Tree Story – A farewell Screening

简体中文

Thank you dear friends for coming on Saturday.  It was with both great emotion and pleasure to have a final gathering at Dongyue Art Museum.

Meeting with friends I hadn’t seen in years , artists and curators , scientists and researchers , writers and cultural entrepreneurs.

Huge thank you to curator Yuan Qiulai 袁秋来 for 14 years of working together and also Dongyue gallery assistant Yishuo Chen 陈怡硕 for her incredible hard work. A huge thank you to the eloquent Shasha Liu , always willing to help translate and to all I have worked with over the years, especially the Tree Story Tellers for sharing your connection to trees in particular the Beijing Tree Story tellers Prof Wang Yongge, Dr Liu Tingting, Dr Dai , Teacher Nina Cao, Shasha Liu and Dom Messerschimidt for the tree story recordings filmed in June at  Beijing Academy of Forestry and Landscape Architecture.

This was my closing exhibition for another 2-3 years as I travel outside China showing and gathering Tree Stories on Video from the Memory Palace of Tree Stories . I return in a couple of years with stories from further afield making it a more global tree story collection . As I travel I will also continue to weave the hair sculpture… ‘Ginkgo tree ‘ which I will exhibit on my return to China .

My life and learnings here in China over the last 15 years has defined me both as a person and as an artist, the kindness and openness of the people I have met and worked with on problem solving and creative solutions and so many other insights have taught me lessons for life.

Thank you Truly Madly Deeply Thank you .
