Excavations at He Gallery, Laipeng Golf Space
Excavations is currently showing at the He Gallery Laipeng Golf Art space until June 3rd 2018 .
This rendition of Excavations opened on Sunday 22nd April and I would like to thank Gallery manager Liu Meijun, Mr Zhou Chen of Chen Gallery, Mr Huang Zhongjin of Laipeng golf grounds. Many thanks to curators Jia Jingjing and Liu Meijun for all their hard work. Sincere thanks to deputy Head of Mission Tim Harrington who came to officiate the opening along with cultural attaché Aoife Fleming of the Embassy of Ireland. Thank you to Dublin City Council for sponsoring this project celebrating the twinning programme between Dublin and Beijing .
The opening was very special as five of the six participating artists were present : Fion Gunn, Gulistan, Monika Lin arrived from Shanghai and Lee Sheungha came from Korea and myself. Sadly Audrey Mullins could not be present .

A time of gifts – the people at Guanlan
Some photos from Guanlan Printmaking Base Shenzhen where I had the good fortune to meet impressive artists in residence and other wonderful people based at the Printmaking workshop. This must be one of the most unique printmaking bases in the world located in a scenic 300 year old Hakka village.

Beijing Film Academy exhibition
The exhibition (形质与叙事) ‘Qualitative Phase and the Narrative’ or my own loose translation – A conversation on what lies beneath- opened yesterday at Dong Yue Art Museum. Curated by Liu Xuguang and Li Zhen this trienial exhibition is part of the Beijing Film Academy conference. “ The exhibition explores art as a concept and looks at the original image in the context of new media art” said academic curator Li Zhen.

There are 10 international galleries showing at art:gwangju:17 at the Kim Dae Jung convention centre. I will look at two of these the Nancy Toomey Fine Art (San Francisco) and the Leyden Gallery (London).

Xuan Zhi Paper series available for online purchase
This series of paper works are a contemplation on process, chance and reclamation. For this series I can act as fluidly and quickly as surface tension allows creating the movement of colour captured on the xuan zhi paper. Although traditional Chinese materials are being used it is very different to the traditional brush work on paper .
Some of the works here are revisits from works on canvas, some are of intended works that have yet to reach the canvas. And others are organic abstractions of life, evolving into cellular microcosms or botanical forms.
